Aquarium Starter Tips

1. Treat Water First Never use straight tap water. Always dechlorinate or let it sit for 24+ hours before adding fish.

2. Acclimate Gently Float the closed fish bag in your tank for at least 30 minutes to equalize temperature. Then, slowly add small amounts of tank water to the bag every 15 minutes before releasing the fish.

3. Go Slow on Food Don’t feed your fish for the first 1–2 days. After that, feed only once a day—give only what they can finish in 1–2 minutes. Overfeeding is the primary cause of fish loss in small aquariums.

4. Change Water Often In small tanks, change 20–30% of the water 1–2 times a week. Always use dechlorinated water that’s the same temperature as the tank.

5. Clean the Bottom When changing water, use a gravel vacuum to remove fish waste and leftover food.

6. Don’t Overcrowd Too many fish in a small tank = stressed, sick fish. Research your fish’s space needs first.

Bottom Line: Start with clean, dechlorinated water. Introduce fish slowly, feed sparingly, and keep up with small, frequent water changes. Less is more in a small tank!
